National Youth Leadership Training

National Youth Leadership Training is an exciting, action-packed program designed to provide youth members of the Boy Scouts of America with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home troops and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others.

For many years, junior leader training (JLT) was an important part of the leadership training continuum of BSA local councils throughout America. A task force of leadership experts and hundreds of Scouts in pilot courses across the nation reviewed and tested every aspect of the current NYLT syllabus, which incorporates the latest leadership ideas and presents fresh, vital, and meaningful training for today’s Scouts.

The BSA updated its policy during the Fall of 2021, requiring that NYLT courses must operate using the linked Troop model with same-gender youth staff and participants. In order to comply with that requirement, we are actively seeking female youth who have completed NYLT to serve on the staff of our 2023 Course. Unfortunately, not many of these youth members in the MCBSA are currently in that category.

In the unfortunate event that the dates of our NYLT course are not campatible with your calendat, then a list of the available NYLT courses, with registration information, is provided here: 2023 Nearby NYLT Courses. All ScoutsBSA members in the MCBSA deserve the opportunity to develop their leadership skills. Please contact us with any questions or concerns.
