NYLT Program

Monmouth Council’s NYLT Program is a week-long resident camping experience which will equip youth with the leadership skills that Scouting programs promise.  It is taught by youth for youth . . . with adult supervision and encouragement.  Members of Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Sea Scouts are encouraged to develop their abilities to lead both during NYLT and back at their units.  What participants gain in this program will also help them for the rest of their lives.

During the Fall, BSA National updated its policy requiring that NYLT courses must now operate under the linked Troop model with same-gender youth staff and participants. While we actively seek girls who had completed NYLT to staff our 2022 Course, all potential staff candidates have declined – both within and outside Monmouth. Therefore, not being able to provide the required, qualified female staff, results in us not able to conduct an NYLT course for female participants this year – further limiting the pool of future staff candidates. We certainly want to transform this potentially vicious cycle into one where our girls can develop their leadership skills. We have provided a list of near-by Council’s NYLT courses and their dates in order for eligible girls to continue their leadership training and potentially become future Monmouth Council NYLT staff members.
