The Snuffy Hollow Camporee was established in 1963 after the success of a field competition that was held between a few of the local troops in Helmetta, New Jersey. The competition was so popular that a Snuffy Hollow Camporee Committee was formed to oversee the development and implementation of an annual invitational Snuffy Hollow Camporee. The event is invitational so that the Snuffy Hollow Camporee Committee can ensure that every unit participating is prepared for the competition – if you’d like to be included, generally you just have to ask!
The event is designed with Scouting ideals and the Patrol Method as the focal point. The competition has two main parts: Field Stations, focusing on selected Scout Skills, and the trail, focusing on orienteering and nature. The members of each Patrol must work cooperatively to apply their knowledge in creative and resourceful ways using the appropriate Scout Skills and Spirit. The Snuffy Hollow Camporee is a Scouting adventure for the Patrols, under the leadership and guidance of their Patrol Leaders. The goal of the Snuffy Hollow Camporee Committee is to provide a weekend of fun and activities for all Scouts in keeping with the true purpose and values promoted within the Scouting program. The participation of all scouts is encouraged for a rewarding and memorable scouting experience.
